From Veg Patch to Putting Green

Every garden tells a story. From Veg Patch to Putting Green – For one family in Alwoodley, Leeds, the back of their garden had long been taken up by a redundant vegetable patch — uneven, overgrown, and offering little enjoyment.

They had a vision: to reclaim this space and turn it into something truly special, a place where golf and home life could blend seamlessly. That’s where Golf4Home came in.

The Vision

The brief was exciting. The client wanted to prepare a large section of the garden — around 300 square metres — for a future golf swing studio, while also transforming the old vegetable patch into a beautiful putting green.

It wasn’t just about aesthetics, but creating a space that could be used every day, whether for practice, family enjoyment, or simply to admire from the house.

Laying the Foundations

The first stage of the project was all about preparation. Our team of seven, worked to flatten, clear and level the ground. We created a stable base that would be ready to accommodate the swing studio when the time came.

At the same time, our electrician installed a trench that stretched the entire length of the garden. Into this, we laid armoured cabling, safely running power from the house to the rear of the property. This ensured the future studio and lighting would be fully connected and reliable.

Designing the Green

With the foundations in place, we turned to the centrepiece: a bespoke 5-hole putting green. This was carefully designed not only to look stunning but to provide a genuine short-game challenge.

We surrounded the putting surface with 37mm artificial fringe grass, giving it a natural finish and allowing chips and pitches to react just as they would on the course.

To extend the usability, we added discreet bollard lighting, allowing for evening practice sessions and creating a warm, welcoming glow around the green.

A Garden Reimagined

In just seven days, the transformation was complete. What was once an unused patch of ground is now a high-quality practice area that combines performance with beauty.

The client now has the perfect space to refine their putting and chipping, alongside a ready-prepared foundation for their golf swing studio.
